 Marco Casentini: Up and Down

Brian Gross Fine Art is pleased to announce a solo exhibition of recent paintings by the Italian artist Marco Casentini, opening March 1, with a reception for the artist from 4-6 pm. The exhibition, Up and Down, will feature Casentini’s signature geometric abstractions composed of overlapping shapes in vibrant, contrasting colors. Casentini will also be debuting a series of paintings on tridimensional wood works and plexiglas hemispheres for the first time in America. Up and Down will be on view through April 26, 2014.

Casentini’s new body of work includes multicolored acrylic paintings on canvas with plexiglas elements, paintings on plexiglas hemispheres, and paintings on canvas over three-dimensional wood forms. Continuing his exploration of painting on diverse materials and surfaces, Casentini now expands his reach to include the third dimension. In his latest series, titled “Rollercoasters”, Casentini paints directly on plexiglas spherical domes. Fifteen of these hemispheres will be featured in the exhibition as an artist designed installation, dynamically arranged to produce a sense of vibrancy, visual rhythm and movement.

Born in La Spezia, Italy in 1961, Casentini studied painting at the Accademia di Belle Arti in Carrara, Italy. His work has been featured in over 150 solo and group exhibitions throughout the United States, Italy, Germany, Switzerland, Austria, the Netherlands, and Australia. This is his sixth solo exhibition with Brian Gross Fine Art, having first exhibited in 1999 as an emerging talent. He currently lives and works in Milan, Italy and Hermosa Beach, California.
