Press Release

Brian Gross Fine Art is pleased to announce the opening of an exhibition of New Works by Marco Casentini on September 10, 2020. In his latest paintings, Casentini has introduced layers of dense grids or stripes over his signature overlapping planes of color. Painted on the metal surface of composite panels, the intricate linear work of Casentini’s compositions vibrates with color while still revealing the color forms underneath. The exhibition will be on view through November 7, 2020.

Marco Casentini’s latest body of work finds him expanding on the geometric structures of previous works through the addition of layers of elaborate linear forms. Built up through hundreds of criss-crossing painted lines, Casentini’s gridded overlays both obscure and highlight the color forms beneath them, allowing for complex visual interplays. In other works, he deploys fields of contrasting vertical or horizontal stripes to similar effect. By overlapping veils of linear color over geometric shapes, Casentini creates elaborate paintings full of vibrancy, rhythm, and visual nuance.

Born in La Spezia, Italy in 1961, Casentini studied painting at the Accademia di Belle Arti in Carrara, Italy. His work has been featured in over 150 solo and group exhibitions throughout the United States, Italy, Germany, Switzerland, Austria, the Netherlands, and Australia. Most recently his work was presented in Drive In, a solo exhibition at the Museum of Art and History, Lancaster, CA, which later travelled to Bocconi Art Gallery, Milan Italy; Reggia di Caserta, Caserta CE, Italy; and Sheikh Abdullah Al Salem Cultural Center, Kuwait City, Kuwait. This is his eighth solo exhibition with Brian Gross Fine Art, having first exhibited in 1999 as an emerging talent. He currently lives and works in Milan, Italy and Hermosa Beach, California.
